Parshall flumes
Open-channel flow measurement with sensor telemetry
Parshall flumes measure open-channel flow by the water level upstream of a calibrated throat. SYZE fabricates FRP flumes, fits ultrasonic level probes and telemetry, and calibrates the installation - including the flumes at GMDA's Behrampur and Dhanwapur STPs.
How a Parshall flume measures
What we supply
- ISO 9826 geometry
- Standard flume geometry using Q = K × Hⁿ, with tabulated coefficients for each throat size from 4" to 18".
- Open-channel accuracy
- Built for unsteady gravity flow, ±5% under controlled approach velocity, tolerant of debris-heavy flows.
- RTU integration
- RS-485 Modbus with local buffering, remote firmware updates, sensor drift correction and watchdog failover.
- Real-time telemetry
- 10-minute reporting over MQTT, HTTP or FTP to the SYZE platform and the state boards.
- Solar compatible
- 50 W panel, 12 Ah LiFePO4 battery and MPPT controller for more than five days' runtime without mains power.
- Overflow and bypass alarms
- Alerts when the level passes maximum head or a dry-bypass condition is detected, by SMS or email.
- FRP fabrication
- Moulded FRP flumes with gelcoat lining in 4", 6", 9", 12" and 18", with brass staff gauge, flange baseplate and anchor bolts. More than 25 installations across Haryana and Punjab.
- Municipal and industrial
- STPs, CETPs, dairies, breweries and open drains; pH 3–9, TSS below 300 ppm, flows up to 5000 m³/day.
- Commissioning and calibration
- Head-table calibration, ultrasonic zero alignment and a live cross-check with a temporary V-notch or flow bench.
