GMDA Gurugram: Parshall flumes at the Behrampur and Dhanwapur STPs
Open-channel flow at five large STP units, with the data sent to GMDA, HSPCB and CPCB
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority needed flow measured at the outlet and bypass channels of its Behrampur and Dhanwapur sewage treatment plants - five units of 50 to 120 MLD - and the readings sent to GMDA, HSPCB and CPCB alongside the plants' existing online analysers.

The project
- Client
- Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority
- Sites
- Behrampur STP, Dhanwapur STP
- Units
- Five, of 50 to 120 MLD
- Work order
- February 2022
- Completed
- July 2023
- Data sent to
- GMDA, HSPCB and CPCB
The requirement
Plants of this size discharge through open channels, not pipes, so a full-pipe electromagnetic meter was not an option. Flow had to be measured on the outlet and on the bypass channel, and reported together with the analyser readings the plants already sent.
What we did
Flumes sized to each channel
Parshall flumes in FRP, with throats from 457 mm to 1220 mm chosen for each channel's flow range.
Non-contact measurement
An ultrasonic level probe over each flume, with a transmitter converting the head to flow.
Joined to the existing analysers
Flow readings combined with the plants' existing online analyser data at the outlet and bypass channels.
Data to three servers
Readings sent to GMDA, HSPCB and CPCB.
Maintenance
Maintained through the defect liability period after completion.
Result
- Continuous flow at the outlet and bypass channels of five STP units
- Data reaching GMDA, HSPCB and CPCB
- Completed in July 2023; GMDA's experience certificate records the work as satisfactory
