Online TSS analyser

Total suspended solids measured continuously, by optical absorption and scatter

Total suspended solids (TSS) is the weight of particles in the effluent that a filter holds back. In the laboratory the sample is filtered, dried and weighed. Online, our probe measures it continuously from how the particles absorb and scatter light.

Keeping TSS readings right

Mounted out of the bubbles
Air bubbles scatter light like particles, so the probe sits where the flow is steady.
Set against the laboratory
Matched at commissioning to laboratory TSS results for your outlet.
Cleaning
Solids settle on the window; it is cleaned on a schedule.
TSS and turbidity together
TSS in mg/L for the boards, turbidity in NTU as a quick check of clarity, both from the same probe.

Questions

Why does TSS rise sharply at times?

Real changes in solids show at once online, where a daily grab sample would miss them. The record shows when and for how long, which helps the plant find the cause.

Is TSS the same as turbidity?

No. TSS is the weight of solids, turbidity is how much light they scatter. Both are measured and each is reported in its own unit.
